Influencer marketing is a mix of new and old marketing tactics which involves a deal between a brand and an influencer to promote products and services. Usually these influencers have a large following on Instagram, Twitter, or even Snapchat. You have to know which influencers to reach out to and which ones have a large following of your target audience.

Who are some popular influencers?

Some of the most popular influencers on Instagram include the Kardashians, Ariana Grande, and Beyoncé. They promote everything from fat burning teas to hair growth vitamins to clothing lines. A popular detox weight loss tea that has many celebrity and amateur influencers promoting their brand is Fit Tea. Big celebrities like Kylie Jenner have posed with and promoted Fit Tea by captioning something positive in their post and tagging the brand as well as often using the hashtag #ad like the example below.

It is a mystery if these celebrities even use these products or just use them for advertising purposes and to collect a paycheck. 

How does influencer marketing work?

Basically, a brand makes a deal with an influencer, someone who has a large social media following, and pays the influencer in exchange for them promoting the brand. The brand gives the influencer specific instructions and requirements of what they need to put into their post in order to get paid for their testimony.

How much can influencers make per post?

Ever wonder how much money influencers make off of one post? It can vary by the number of followers the influencer has. Influencers with less than 10,000 can make roughly $100 per post. Although you aren’t making a whole lot of money at this stage, it can open the doors for future sponsorship opportunities, and you get some free products! 

 

Those with more than 10,000 followers but less than 100,000 can make about $200 per post, but of course this varies based on the advertiser. Influencers who fall in this category usually have promo codes that their followers can use when making a purchase on the brand’s website that they are promoting, and they make a percentage of the sale whenever someone uses their code. 

 

Now we’re getting to the big bucks. If you are an influencer with close to a million followers, having between 250,000 and 500,000 followers, you can make up to $670 per post. I mean who doesn’t want to make almost $700 just from posting a photo, I know I would.

The main and most important goal of influencer marketing is to build brand awareness. Companies use influencers to promote their brand because their followers are the same type of audience the company is trying to appeal to. If people see their favorite Instagram star or YouTuber using a product or service and saying how great it is, more than likely they’ll try it out too. 

 

Another main goal of influencer marketing is to generate sales. Although companies like Fashion Nova give out clothing pieces to the influencers for free, they tend to generate more sales when the influencers followers like the pieces they are modeling and want to buy it for themselves. Companies can track how much revenue they are making with customized links, promotion codes and landing pages.
