How to Scale a Small Company using Your Greatest Asset

There are several ways to grow a small company, but in this post, I want to talk about what is mainly not customer/client facing: culture.

Without a healthy culture, you’re doomed to struggle. Empowering others is the key to success. Maybe you think you don’t have trustworthy people, help them grow or let them go. If you’re not sure if you can trust them you can find that out by believing in them!

You can start by just saying, “Here is your assignment, I trust you.” The two biggest things for creating an empowering culture is to give clarity and trust. Without them, you will leave people in fear or without direction.

Trust is the safety net for people to take risks. Without it, you’re probably going to struggle to scale and innovate. If people know they can make a mistake, they are willing to try more things.

Strategy < People

Help create clarity by helping the people within your company understand what the win is at a macro and micro level. You want to delegate the why and not the what.

Communicate one thing and make sure the people who work with you understand what that is.

When you extend trust to people, you create relational equity.
